Why live in Royalton?

Royalton is a place like no other. It is a community in the strongest sense of the word, neighbors helping neighbors in a town where our neighbors could be anyone from anywhere in the world. Vermont Law School (Vermont’s only law school) makes its home here, drawing students from all over the world, creating a diverse multicultural community. We live surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Don’t believe me? Hike to Kent’s Ledge during foliage season and take in the valley below, or walk along the White River and see the yellow, red and orange reflected on the surface of the clear water.

We have the best of all worlds:  several working farms keep our food close to the source, a quick commute to the manufacturing industry in Bethel and Randolph, as well as the culture of Dartmouth College, the cutting edge medical facility that is Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, employment, shopping and entertainment in the Upper Valley towns of Lebanon and Hanover.  Our school, a unique Kindergarten through twelfth grade institution, produces well educated young people who are accepted into prestigious institutions such as Dartmouth College and Stanford University.

Why Visit Royalton?

Visitors to Royalton can breakfast at one of our fabulous local restaurants, climb the trail to Kent’s ledge and view the town, fields and river laid out in front of them, or sit on the banks of the White River and watch it roll by or swim, paddle, or tube from bridge to bridge. Purchase your dinner and a brew at the Worthy Burger, 5 Ole Tavern  or Cross Roads Pub and sit on the green eating while listening to the town band play on a Thursday evening in summer, among the war memorials and two gazebos. Stand on the hill above the South Royalton Green and view the village laid out in front of you – so picturesque it was used in the opening scene in the popular TV show Gilmore Girls.

An ancient cemetery and Celtic caves await intrepid adventurers. During the summer sample local produce, jams, baked goods and handmade items from local artisans at the weekly Farmer’s Market held on the town green Thursday afternoons. The Joseph Smith Memorial is especially beautiful at Christmas festooned with lights after a day spent on the slopes in the brilliant sunlight. And don’t forget to look up at night. If you’ve never lived in a place without city lights you can’t know what the night sky is really like. There are more stars than you can imagine, and Royalton is the perfect place to learn their names.
